Structural Testing Facilities

  • 6,5000 ft 2 of total lab space, 9,000 ft 2 of high bay space;

  • 32' by 120'-million pound reaction floor with adequate load frame structures;

  • Three closed-loop servo controlled actuators (2 x 50 kip and 1 x 200 kip) and MTS 458 & 407 controllers.

  • (12) open loop hydraulic actuators (20 to 600 tons capacity with stroke range from 6? to 36?)

  • (3) high speed, 128 channel data acquisition system with signal conditioning for strain gages, wire pots and LVDT?s;
    (all transportable to the field);

  • (2) laptop based data acquisition systems 40 channels with signal conditioning for strain gages, wire pots and LVDT?s;

  • (3) field data logging systems and supporting sensors (strain, deflection, load);

  • Drop hammer loading system and field ready accelerometers.

Computer Facilities

  • SGI Origin 3400 series with multiple processors and several gigabytes of RAM

  • 4 processor SGI Origin 200 with 1.7 gigabytes of RAM.

  • (2+) Intel and MIPS-based workstations, running MS Windows, Linux, and SGI IRIX for scientific visualization and general computing.

  • Applications, such as: PATRAN, a general purpose CAE package; ABAQUS & ANSYS (finite element solver);  Matlab and Mathematica, for numerical analysis; Tecplot, a data visualization system; and compilers for C, C++, Java, and FORTRAN.

  • Data storage is provided by a 1.2 terabyte RAID system attached to a fault-tolerant Linux based cluster

  • SGI Origin 2000 and 3400 systems and the University's Sun Microsystems E10000 computer, each with multiple processors and several gigabytes of RAM.

  • CAVE Automated Virtual Environment (CAVE), for high-end, immersive data visualization Immersive Workbench, Immersive Desk, SGI Octanes, Sun Sparc 20s, and Linux desktop computers. Software in this facility includes CAVE lib API, DIVERSE API, PV-Wave, and AVS.
