2008 Summer Research Opportunities for Undergraduate Students in the areas of Field-Responsive Materials, Materials and Processes for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells, and Macromolecular Interfaces with Life Sciences!
Will I make money?
Yes, $5,850, paid in two installments (you pay for housing). Travel grants are available for non-VA Tech participants up to a maximum of $500.00.
How long is the program? And where?
12 weeks, May 20 - August 8, 2008 on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia
Who is eligible?
Rising juniors and seniors (preferred) who attend universities in the USA and are U.S. citizens or Permanent residents of the United States
What curricula are favored?
Chemistry, physics, and mechanical, chemical civil or materials engineering, biology, biochemistry, food science, pre-med and pre-vet programs.
How do I apply?
1. Complete the online application form and "Statement of Goals"
2. Ask one professor to write a letter of recommendaton
3. Get an original official transcript sent by your registrar to the application address
You will not be considered unless we receive the three items listed above.

Where do I send my application materials?
The online application will automatically be sent to the appropriate person. You should send your Statement of Goals (if you need more space than is available on the application form), your recommendation letter and your official transcript to:

When is the application deadline?
Although there is no hard-and-fast application deadline, faculty will begin reviewing applications and selecting their summer researchers beginning February 1, 2008. Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications early as slots are filled quickly.
When will I know?
If your application is received by February 1, 2008, you can expect to hear a decision on or about March 14, 2008 by phone or email (Be sure to include phone numbers and email addresses on the application). If you will be on Spring break during that time, also give numbers where we can reach you.) If you are offered a position, we will need to know your decision very quickly.
