Expectations - Yours and Ours
YOU CAN EXPECT:
You will be working with a faculty sponsor and at least one graduate student or post-doctoral mentor as you conduct your research. Your mentor will guide you on a day-to-day basis, but you should feel free to call on your faculty sponsor as required. You will receive as much guidance as you need as you prepare for your oral presentation and your final written report.
A first payment of $3,850 will be available on your arrival. You will receive your remaining stipend when the written report is delivered.
If you indicate that you wish for us to arrange for your housing while you are in Blacksburg (on the application form), we will do so, although you are welcome to arrange your own accommodations as well.
WE EXPECT:
The program starting and ending dates are May 20 - August 8, 2008. The program orientation meeting will be on May 20 and you will be expected to attend this meeting. No exceptions are available on the dates. The faculty will want you to work intensely. They will contact you in advance and weekly concerning the investigation. A graduate student will be available to give daily guidance on methodology in your research, your notebook and the organization and presentation of your data.
Participants are required to attend at least one SURP group meeting per week where career enhancing topics are presented.
An oral presentation of your research is required during a symposium on July 31, which highlights your summer investigations.
