Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Programs

In 1989 the National Science Foundation established a Center at Virginia Tech to conduct research and provide education focused on advanced materials having polymeric constituents. Both adhesives and composites were included in the charter for investigation and instruction. A highly successful and competitive by-product of the Center featured visiting undergraduates' research. Thanks to two (2) new Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) grants (one with a focus on Field Responsive Materials and the other with a focus on Materials and Processes for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells) and a continuing Integrated Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) grant from the National Science Foundation the twentieth consecutive summer of research opportunities is being made available for undergraduates who wish an exciting laboratory experience. We have over 460 graduates from the REU summers!
